Standards
Editorial policy
Independence, sourcing standards, corrections and update cadence — the rules this publication holds itself to.
Stitch & Selvage is funded by affiliate commission and independent of it. No ranking here has been sold, no manufacturer has been given a preview or a veto, and we accept no free products. Every factual claim on the site falls into one of four categories, each with a required source, and anything that fits none of them does not get published.
Independence
- No sponsored placements. We do not sell a position in a list, a mention in an article, or a link. There is no rate card because there is nothing for sale.
- No free product. We do not accept review units, samples or gifts from manufacturers or retailers. Since we do not test machines, there is nothing a sample could add except an obligation.
- Commission does not set rank. Affiliate rates differ between products. Our rank order is the output of the scoring formula published on how we pick, and if a lower-paying product scores higher it ranks higher.
- No manufacturer sees a page before it publishes. No previews, no approvals, no right of reply before the fact.
- We publish a skip-this pick on every roundup, on a product we could earn from. That is the deliberate cost of the independence claim.
Sourcing standard
Every factual claim on this site falls into one of four categories. Each has a required source and a required display. Nothing may be published that fits none of them.
The sourcing standard, applied to every page on this site.
Where a number cannot be verified, the page says so. “The manufacturer does not publish this” is an acceptable sentence on this site and a fabricated figure is not. Presser foot pressure, motor wattage and stitches-per-minute are frequently absent from published specifications, and we write that rather than estimating.
What we will never publish
- A price, rating, review count, specification or product claim written from memory.
- A testimonial or review from a customer, because this publication has none. A page with no testimonials is correct; a page with invented ones would be a catastrophe.
- A claim of hands-on testing, ownership or a test lab. We have none of those.
- A credential the author does not hold, or any tenure or expertise language implying one.
- A recommendation for a product that cannot actually be bought.
- A structured-data review rating for a product we have not used.
Corrections
If something here is wrong, tell us at info@stitchandselvage.com or through the contact page. We check the claim against the manufacturer's own page.
- Factual errors are fixed, and the page's updated date moves to the date of the fix.
- Material corrections are noted on the page, not edited away quietly. If a recommendation changes because we had a specification wrong, we say that the recommendation changed and why.
- Typos and clarifications are fixed silently, because nobody benefits from a correction notice about a comma.
- A pick that becomes unbuyable is removed or replaced, and the roundup is re-ranked rather than left with a dead link.
Update cadence
Published so you can judge how current a page is likely to be.
Corrections log
There are no published corrections yet. This site launched on 1 September 2026 and this section will list material corrections as they occur, with the date and what changed. An empty log this early is a statement of fact rather than a claim about accuracy.
Author
Everything on this site is written by Scooter M., positioned as an enthusiast rather than an expert. The full framing, including what that byline explicitly does not claim, is on the about page.
About the author
Scooter M.
An enthusiast who is genuinely into this. I read the manuals, compile the published specs, and do the arithmetic. No lab coat, no test bench, and no machines I am pretending to have used — which is exactly why every claim here carries a source.
